Lingual braces are braces that are fitted behind the teeth and are therefore completely hidden whilst the teeth are being straightened. They are as effective as traditional braces in correcting alignment and bite problems. Treatment times with lingual braces are similar to those of traditional braces.
Initially, lingual braces can be uncomfortable due to their close proximity to the tongue. This can cause some speech changes at the start of treatment. However, the discomfort eases in about 7 days after the braces are fitted.
Lingual braces are suitable for most people who have healthy teeth and gums. Excellent oral hygiene is essential when having lingual braces to maintain the health of your teeth and gums. Like traditional braces, once treatment is completed, fixed or removable retainers will be fitted.
